Welcome!

Welcome!

Appledore

We are surrounded by pubs with regular live music and restaurants - we can offer you a 10% discount at the village's leading fish restaurant situated just around the corner on the Quay where the fish is landed from Appledore's fishing boats. Or there are two delicious fish and chip shops! Boats abound - a small community-run ferry leaves the Quay for Instow on the other side of the estuary during the summer months. There are galleries for artists and ceramacists, jewellery makers, and narrow lanes and alleys to wander.

Join us soon - and discover all this - and more - for yourselves!

The area

We are on the South West coastal path, buses for most of North Devon stop right outside the door, the county's premier golf course is less than 2 miles away. The beautiful wide expanse of sandy beach at Westward Ho! - the safest beach in Devon - is a must and a real magnet for surfers, kite fliers and dog walkers - and of course swimmers and castle makers! There is fishing on the Torridge, adventure at Skern Lodge Activities Centre less than a mile away, and lovely quiet lanes for cycling.                                                                           A more comprehensive list is on our Things To Do Page. And for more ideas go to www.appledoredevon.co.uk

Bradbourne House

Welcome to Bradbourne House! Our home and we hope a stylish, comfortable and relaxing base for your trip to beautiful North Devon and the historic fishing village of Appledore. A warm welcome greeted us when we moved here and we want to recreate that warmth and home-from-home feeling for you.

The house is Georgian, Grade 11 listed, built around 1790. It sits in a terrace of imposing large houses looking out right over the river Torridge estuary. There is an ever-changing vista to absorb the eye - a flotilla from the yacht club directly across the river, the local gig rowing teams practising twice a week, or a fishing boat returning to Appledore or Bideford. Across the road the historic Richmond Dock, now a working boatyard again.

The house has retained a wealth of original architectural features - if you want hi-tech gizmos, plastic fittings and harsh lighting this is not the place for you. Wooden floorboards, original cornicing and sash windows are us. But we are not slaves to the past and do incorporate modern amenities - copious hot water, crisp linen bedding, tvs, kettles and comfy sofas in your room and a Rayburn-cooked breakfast.

We have two rooms, one on the first and the other on the second floor where both get the best of the views. You climb the original Georgian turning cantilevered staircase with its wrought iron balustrading and mahogany handrail past the impressive 15' arched window overlooking the garden to your room.  Taw and Torridge, named in tribute to the two beautiful Devon rivers that meet the sea in Appledore, are double rooms, both with superb, uninterrupted water views. Each has a private bathroom immediately adjacent - one with a large original cast iron bath with shower attachment, the other with an electric shower. Dressing gowns and slippers are offered in each bedroom.  Tea and coffee making facilities, tv with Freeview and DVD and a comfy sofa to relax after your day exploring the surroundings - or just to sit and watch the water and world go by.

We offer a relaxed household. You can come and go as you please - and we can offer you breakfast in bed - or at least in your room - if you prefer. Or join us in the elegant dining room with its water views, large oak dining table and plentiful choice to set you up for the day. Again we are relaxed about timings of breakfast. You are on holiday and we are here to help you unwind and enjoy Appledore.

PLEASE NOTE - WE ARE ENTIRELY SMOKE FREE.
